How to disable Grammarly?

This document provides instructions on how to disable the Grammarly extension for Chrome, which may be necessary if the extension is causing pages to load incorrectly in CoStar Brokerage Applications.

If you have any questions, or if this did not resolve your issue, please contact [email protected].

Background

We have had reports of the Chrome browser extension Grammarly interfering with the CoStar Brokerage Applications site, which causes pages to stop loading before they are complete. This can often look like the form or list has only loaded in a narrow bar, or the form or list doesn’t load at all.

To date, we have not had similar reports related to any other Chrome extensions. Since the conflict is caused by the code in the Grammarly extension, the solution is to disable that extension while using CoStar Brokerage Applications.

How to disable the Grammarly browser extension

Verify you have Grammarly installed

Open a Chrome browser tab and enter the following into the address line: "chrome://extensions". Alternatively, you can open the (1) browser’s menu and go to (2) More tools > (3) Extensions.

You should see a list of installed Chrome extensions on your Browser. If Grammarly has been added, there is a blue slider switch on the right bottom of the Grammarly box.

Determine whether disabling Grammarly solves the issue

Select the switch to disable the extension, then return to CoStar Brokerage Applications and see if the page now loads correctly. If you already have a Brokerage Applications page open, hold the CTRL key down and select F5 to reload the page from our servers.

Other extension options

If the issue is now resolved, return to the browser’s Extension page. Go to the Grammarly extension and select the Details box.

On the Details page, scroll down the list to the Site Access section, and select either the "On click" or "On specific sites" option instead of the "On all sites" option. Remember to confirm/reselect the Toggle On/Off switch to re-enable the extension.

The "On click" option disables the extension on all sites until you specifically click to enable the extension for a site you are currently on. The "On specific sites" option allows you to enter the URL of specific sites where you may want to use Grammarly.
