Help Center : OutlookSync Converting Single User Installation to All Users

The CoStar OutlookSync setup installs the AddIn for the currently logged in user only, if more than one person uses a given computer, it would need to be installed separately for each user. This permits non-administrator users to install it without needing an admin. For cases where it would be preferable to install it once for all users, a PowerShell script is provided to convert the standard single-user installation into an all-users installation. The following explains how to use it.

Instructions

  1. Install CoStar OutlookSync as usual for the current user, then start Outlook to verify the AddIn is properly installed (a CoStar ribbon group will be displayed when it is correctly installed.)

  2. While Outlook is running, open the About box to determine whether it is the 64 bit version or the 32 bit version of Outlook. (In Outlook 2019, File ribbon tab, Office Account link, About Outlook button.)

  3. Extract all files from the conversion package archive (attached below) into a directory; in Explorer, right-click the file “ConvertOLSToAllUsers##.ps1“ (where ## is either 32 or 64, depending on Outlook version) and choose the “Run with Powershell” context menu option.

  4. Follow the instructions shown in the Powershell console.

Note: You must be an administrator in order to perform this conversion, because it creates files in the Program Files directory, and writes to the HKLM section of the registry.

Also Note: The script will automatically execute the CoStar OutlookSync uninstaller, to unregister and remove the single-user installation after copying it to Program Files. This may indicate an error removing a Start Menu shortcut; that condition is benign and can be safely ignored.

It also imports two registry files; this is normal/necessary, please allow the imports when prompted.

Note: If some users of a shared environment do not wish to use CoStar Outlook Sync, it is possible to disable it for an individual user, by running a registry script while the affected user is logged-in. This will add configuration to that user’s profile, to disable Outlook Sync for that user only.
